Brilliant leaves Google to tackle “Urgent Threats”

Bizjournals.com - ‎Apr 14, 2009‎
Larry Brilliant, who played a key role in eradicating small pox in Asia and was the founding executive director of Google's philanthropic arm, ...
Brillaint is to head the $100 million Skoll Urgent Threats Fund in Palo Alto. The new organization was created by the Skoll Foundation to identify and support innovative, high impact initiatives to combat climate change, water scarcity, pandemics, nuclear proliferation and Middle East conflict.

“Over the last few years, it has become increasingly apparent that humanity’s failure to address critical issues like climate change and nuclear proliferation aren’t just making these challenges more difficult, they’re putting life on the planet at risk,” said Jeff Skoll, founder and chairman of the Skoll Foundation in a statement on the organization’s web site. “This new organization is designed to make serious headway on these issues by identifying and supporting the most innovative initiatives and solutions out there. I can’t think of anyone better prepared to shape and lead this effort than Larry Brilliant.”

thanks for asking me to draft some slides so you can choose content to launch micro up university club at GWU

please note that most slides are composites - ie in practice you might build them up one line at a time- and I rather expect many of the chosen lines need customising

tell me if this sort of thing is what you wanted; if not I can have another go

Samantha - sorry to say that you have to convince either the germans or yunus that you need to be there -yunus or his german advisers has been making all the invites personally ; they have been starting with the CEOs who have formed global brand partners with dr yunus and have a particular plan to discuss everything other than banking

dr yunus has got a bit tired of helping promote 13 microcreditsummits where he - and all the newtorks are- still not alowed  freedom of speech to talk about all the other inventions before endless debates on banking -

this is all my interpretaion of a world tt is is the most comfied states human have ever been in; lighted if others haa smarter view  share

Description

Muhammad Yunus is coming to Barnes and Noble! He's giving a talk on his new book "Creating a World Without Poverty", about social business and a potential 'nice' side of capitalism. Yunus is the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 with the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh. He created the idea of microcredit (small loans to women and impoverished people to promote self-sufficiency and lift them out of poverty). His idea spurred hundreds of non-profits and governments into action and has currently helped over 100 million people around the world. This guy is seriously cool! He has done some amazing things and this is a great chance to be able to hear him speak.

Dear Gordon

There is lots to build on but I wanted to address your prime view: The need is for GLOBAL DIGITAL PLATFORMS.  Repeat: PLATFORMS, PLATFORMS (Google, Facebook, YouTube – with its 5.6 billion downloads of co-creative videoclips in a month.  Yunus has so many incredible working models. We need a global platform so his success stories can be communicated in two-minute video clips (not him talking but produced by thousands) which will be downloaded by hundreds of millions of people each month.  On that platform, the kids of the world can demonstrate how to do it.

..............................................................................................................................................................

how could I not agree - my own written work since 1989 describes world scaled brands as goodwill or badwill multiplying platforms/mediators of our times- by platform I mean that the brand has its own stage for making news/connecting people (ie it has no advertising costs) because of its platform-

Norman Macrae - Next Capitalsm's Entrepreneurial Revolution - Xmas 1976 survey The Economist
The world needs to draw to the end of big business corporations. They were virtually created during 1875-1910. During 1975-2010 they may virtually disappear in their presnet form, and the interesting question is what will replace them?..How will we free Adam Smith? As noted in last year's survey of America's third century : it cannot be with today's mass media system of free misinformation (including mendacious advertisements)

I define the most valuable pracs of brand creativity as designing zero-cost platforms that world-scale (as I found from working at wpp for 2 years on a portal that was to be called brandknowledge.com - my view of creativity made marketing 10 times lower cost which ultimately caused martin sorrell to have me escorted out of his agency's offices in new york and london offices but not before the row we had on his intranet was pretty public inside wpp)  obviously a brand that is an internet tool (a google, a wikipedia ) is an example of having its own platform

there are however other platforms which is just as well as historically the lack of diversity and social openers of who gets first go at code and interfaces embedded in internet would make von neumann turn in his grave

- how about the competition and league tables recognised as deciding who is world's number 1 -instead of these primarily existing for spectator sports, it would be desirable for these to exist for collaborative interactions - who currently empowers more people in the greatest space race uniting our generation (of course a second par of that is there may be multiple races like multiple sports though I see poverty museums as the most inteconnecting of all the united races towards sustainability)

another platform is an identity (eg the nike tick) that youth like to wear partly cos of an embedded alumni meaning and partly it looks smart and eg becomes used in background of every youtube to do with school revolution

another: a brand that makes a market like ebay, kiva or equally importantly http://www.microenergycredits.com/ - whilst currently designed around the heroic goal of auditing 250 million clean energy households and returning the carbon credit to the poor communities that make this happen- the same mobile auditing tool can be used to allocate upside down aid (the investment goes to the communities that advance the millennium or other world agreed goal) -in other words this kind of stage can end trickle down global aid -in effect ending poverty needs its own "free  market" infrastructures and we can be certain these will be opposite way round than the mass broadcast advertising spot which has the nastiest dumbing down consequences on everything from democracy to self-confidence to cross-cultural peace to searching out sustainability or low cost ways of community trades

because Bangladesh has in its 33 years of other way round micro-up systems designed more sustainability open source replicating franchises than anyhwere else , the number 1 challenge is to platform these- in other words Bangladesh connects best for sustainability world interactions but there is an awareness problem - this is most acute among youth (who always are the main fashion changer and platform agent) who either don’t know Bangladesh already wants to open source a solution that matches their most urgent concern, or they don’t know how to connect with this solution, or if they have a better replicable social business solution they don’t know how to get the whole of Bangladesh (ie the whole of micro up world's co-endorsement)

When 2006 Bangladesh and Nobel co-branded each other's authorities to quest for human sustainability we got 2 of the 4 platforms we noted as essential to free market of end poverty in 1984 (the open source cataloguing of end poverty community up and the Nobel co-branding; we didn’t as yet get the main public broadcasters connected such as BB and India's DD nor did we design an internet portal/platform so that every time you connect to the net you go first to replication solutions of sustainability- chapter 11 or dr yunus book asks for ideas on how to achieve these 2 missing links and kazi Islam’s group is intimately connected with the intern design side- since 2005 my biggest talking point in uk is how to close down the Olympics if the bbc isn’t giving sustainability games more share of voice than sports by 2012

one of the 5 collaboration innovations that Bangladesh is epicentral to is the microsummit- this chooses a concern and deadlines a heroic goal; it involves famous people but only for celebrating grassroots practitioner solutions; it mixes every virtual and real way of connecting networks of people- so far this has been primarily done for safe banking though it needs to be done for clean energy if Bangladesh is not to be washed away and for schools if we are not to continuing wasting kids lives etcfor 15 years that I have been on internet, I have kept an eye out for worldwide network movements and microcreditsummit (in spite of some weaknesses) is in a league of its own - at best it lives up to this descriptionJohn Hatch on Microcreditsummit:Behold the largest self-help undertaking in human history—bringing hope, dignity, and empowerment to tens of millions of the world’s poor and poorest families. Behold a movement with global outreach, that has penetrated beyond city slums and market towns to even the most isolated villages. Behold an industry that embraces thousands of NGOs, credit unions, public and private banks, and an infrastructure of hundreds of thousands of community-based peer lending groups that are enabling many of the planet’s most disadvantaged households to generate the additional income and savings they need to keep their children alive, nourished, healthy, and able to attend school..attachment provides more quotes

- the first time I met dr yunus I asked how big could Bangladesh frameworks on social business/future capitalism be compared with microcredit banking - he said to power 7 - why not integrate: microcreditsummit*microschoolssummit*microenergysummit*microhealthsummit*micromediasummit*microproftruthsummit (Gandhi leadership rules satyagraha)*micro -egov (where e is also for empowering instead of powering over)

it is no accident that our new york youth group (who understand the quad whammy of new york transparency destruction -banks, media, UN-globa-down-aid, system collapsing metricated professions) are strongly inquisitive -colaboratively demanding of dr yunus and other microcredit leaders time whenever they pass through new york - about Future Capitalism opportunities- where's the youth journalism club of FC; where's the annual year book of FC; where the open source bank of materials on fc so that any network could make an ebook mapping where other system up stuff linksin; where is the portal of FC; it is just as well the under 25 females that connect that out of new york trained as middle distance runners and similar stamina-enduring pursuits chris

how broadcast media wrongly conditions minds happens to be something I did 20 years of research 76-96 on collecting millions of hours of societal data in over 40 countries -other notes on future jourmnalism in another mail

future schools:

gordon - I agree with your other system round schools video from mexico more than I can write - presumably you have also connected with :

sir kenneth robinson, a liverpudlian now in LA (need to connect with paul mccartney trained GC) popular at the royal society of arts who "proves" schools are stuck in empire academic mindset -basically that 2% of people need to be trained to rule the world and 98% to be trained that they have no talents to lead with ....of course this is the most disastrous type of schooling

-especially if most youth will need to create their own jobs and teams will be the replicator of sustainable/community-enriching networks of economies - dr yunus believes there is an entrepreneur (income generating creator) born inside each of us but tragically many never get a chance to discover their own flow

i believe in flow/productivioty metric of  csikszentmihalyi -what % of lifetime do you experience at experiential edge of your own competence

(side right -more dots to connect on other system round edu)

one of the opportunities is to publish out of dhaka a series of small booklets on the unknown genre of innovating collaboration - when I say unknown - it is the unique diference of the bangaldeshi's nations first third of a century - and while they have had to learn it with the least infrastructure resources children ever- the bridge from there to your world gordon and back is the united hope iof the triangle of economies - bangladesh, china and india with bangladesh being the leader of action learning networks - at least I beleive that is the national strategy thar dr yunus and hos friends have been trying to embed -there's a leaflet growing up with 2 giants which learning/living scripts that

the book imagining india by nandan nilekani is probably the one we need to bridge - india is much luckier having this billionnaire at the centre of its internet world and education philanthropy than usa with gates -the only usa brodacster I am aware of who might begin to connect the dots above the sort of way I map is charlie rose - it would be useful to get him interested in the youth journalism school of future capitalism if anyone has a magic idea on that

action program www yunus/bangladesh portal - ref chapter 11

" creating world without poveryy- social business, future of capitalism"

-oddly drucker was one of the few people who wrote about management whilst believing it should be unmanagement- before senge largely destroyed theory of learing organisation, chris argyris at mit was interesting

we absolutely need an oppsite way round list of references to learning;

lucknow has found that cross-cultural confidence is highly dependent on experience prior to adolesence which makes lot of sense to me; also prior to adolesence I wish all kids would get practised at hosting their own group discussions- harrison owen's open space http://www.openspaceworld.com is as well practises by 11 year olds as any age group and aiso to maximise involvement of everyone in a room at the same time - it also shows that much innovation is about inviting people who are passionately in conflict to the same space and getting them to take each other through the same conflict barrier at the same time to a higher order system

using the www: I cant undesrand why we havent already linked in all classes of 10's 11's 12's 13's and set them to ask each other about the big chalenges like end poverty, end global warming ..

and I have 20 years of evidence (starting with 5 years at coopers & lybrand in london 1990 and then reading hundreds hours of interviews with top people at andersen 1998 whilst working for the world's largest ad agency) that professions have lost their hippocratic oath, mis-measured every thing solely to maintain their own boxed-in monoplies at boardroom and top-down levels - of which global bank meltdown is just one compound syndrome -perhaps worst of all is the lunacy of global accounti ng and ecoonmists that has devalued family cultures with the very worst case possible being usa whsoe metrics ( have destroyed family time, community safety, banking, space to connect, and is dominated by 15 minutes of vicious ads per 60 of broadcast)

again nothing is worse than the american psycho-testing in schools disease that has infected us schools in last 20 years - this is schooling not for children but for those who make money from designing tests whose cnformity is both the pposite of how brains make associations and the greatest waste of human diversity- of cousre the trouble is that in big nations many governments have cares not a tad about what chldren learn contextually but only that children appear to score well -all part of the trouble of pwering over government rather bthan goverment that serves inside community

paul rose is a bbc broadcaster on nature and polar and oceans explorer - he is probably to green energy what you gordon are to schools as learning revolution spaces

if we are talking about youth learning networks most able to end poverty, then alumni of grameen's vilage schools who now  have gone a generation through the way through education to how can they resolve village challenges

and more recently kenya's jamii bora whose slum youth now create busiesses and rinn their own businesses school are dymanics to understand even though they obviously havent had the video-internet future schooling mode you talk about - it is fascinatinf that instituto thmas jefferson in mexico is a world leading experiment in how you see that

(I am less in agreement about wikipedia - while it is potentially good for something static its editing rules are terribly convemtional when it comes to concepts that need t be at the edge)

obviously I am an amateur in what teachers could empower (failitate interaction around) instead of lord over but we need to make sure your journey through internet age of learning replocates; its scary when the world has only a handful of 25 year long explorers in specific contacts of what yes we can empower - hope we can interconnect the world's other system round explorers - knowing tehse people's coordunates is probably where youth journlaism of futuer capitalism needs to start in conmnection with mostofa's brief from dr yunus to identify 5000 youth who want to know where the origins of other way round system practice have been emerging for 25 years (how to question not to orwell-globalisationm) or 33 years (how to question  microbank and entrepreneurial revolution)

Extracts from 60 minutes video with Mrs Begum - one of 4 co-founders of Grameen Bank:

Minute 12- Bangladesh 1976 - Gradually we started to talk to the women,- the first reaction , I’m a woman, I cannot do anything. My husband is responsible for any economic activities. Most of them never touch money with their own hand, because the husband is bringing all the things so she is not really handling any money matters. So when we started talking to them , they were really surprised,- oh you go to my husband, he can do something, I cannot do anything. So we gradually convince the women to take some money to start up some business, so some of them – very few – first loanee was Sophia. She was a beggar who startes to work. And others were just observing what was going on. Then one by one they came…seeing those who hav the money are doing better. But it was not an easy task. From the beginning we had in our mind that at least 50% should be the women and 50% should be the men. To talk about that is easy, but to involve women in that scenario, it was not easy. So it takes time. One thing I should say, how women feel much better and the position came up. I was in a workshop in Tangi in 1979, and in that workshop I’m talking about: is there any change with their family, with their husband, the relationship? So one woman mentioned my husband never took me to doctor or never brought me any medicine if I feel sick. But later when I joined Grameen and I’m in money, now my husband goes to the doctor, brings the medicine. So I asked what is the reason ? She told me that this is – I am an "earning woman" – the important thing that you are depending on yourself, not dependent on others, husband or son or the father…and you come yourself and you give yourself some confidence. And this is the dignity of life.

So what Dr Yunus wants, to bring the dignity among all these women, vulnerable women, so that they can make their own future, they can make their children’s future, because the mother always loves her child very much.

Caitlin - great

It looks to me as if you are making steady progress

If its possible to get us a letter in the next 10 days or so it would be good- I am going to be at grameen in dhaka the week after next; mostofa is already there

obviously this is one of these things its easier to get signed when in front of dr yunus

=

I note the need  to get more practical knowledge on community banking

- if I fail to get much on this I have been promised we can take some young people to the new york office of grameen america (peter burgess would you help in this as I am not very banking minded?) and write up a case; my guess is that there is a series of issues about the law which change how dr yunus would ideally like to design grameen in usa and while these go on there is one simple presentation; st johns university in new york is also supposed to be am authoirised yunus case maker; I dont know if there is some way that the lang center could offer help in developing some of this; I suppose it depends what the interests of each academic are and if they can add something

of yunus authorised academics I am best known by the group in glasgow - they are doing some great stuff but the trouble with the specific cases of community banking is local laws are different everywhere; I will try to find out which of dr yunus academic clusters is ahead on what sort of case material and whether their attitide is to share or not; of course if we can get enough youth ambassadors showing interest there is more likelihood that we can get these flows pened up

- I was suprised to read recently that the founder of chicago shorebank actually helped both yunus and fazle abed at key stages of designing their banks - I dont now what the aspect was but suspect it may have been on legal constitution - he's chicago based - perhaps we could make a list of questions and see if he would do them on a telephone interview http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Grzywinski in any event someone keen on community banking should try and make contact and share the knowhow across clubs 09/10

if you have ideas on how to help empower young people to make ther own resources on a way that gets shared across clubs I am very keen to hear such ideas ; it could be that if you start to list some questions and get clun members to co-edit them and then sign as a club we can present the koint request for ersponses to yunus; subjectively i think if we could getr 3 o4 clubs to join in with say 100 signatires and assuming the quyestins didnt each need a thesis to answer he would probably want to reply

I think Time is still runing a  readers q&a  that becomes an article with yunus http://10questions.time.com/2009/08/12/ask-muhammad-yunus/

News from FINCA village banking:
One of our most amazing new supporters is a seventh grader named Daniel, who raised more than $3,000 by holding a basketball tournament and raffle at his school to benefit FINCA’s efforts to help industrious women lift themselves and their families out of poverty.

Daniel asked the Philadelphia 76ers to contribute tickets and autographed memorabilia as prizes. He spoke to his entire school about microfinance, and showed a FINCA film about the power of Village Banking in Uganda. He even got two friends to bake and sell cookies for eight weeks. All told, Daniel raised an astonishing $3,350.50! Thank you Daniel and friends!

How can you rally your family, friends and community to support the Village Banking Campaign? When you work together, it’s easy to Give a Little, and Change a Lot! Please share your successes with us by writing fincaonline@villagebanking.org.

Mayday! diary: How do 10000 meet to explore forbidden stories - collaboration cafe may1 6.00ish Asia Society

This topic's inaugural rehearsal is in new york's asia society circle bar 725 park avenue  at 6.00pm may 1 - but do tell me if I can help you host a replicating meeting where you can be.
The Skinny:

Collaboration Cafe 1

How do you get 10K people meeting to tell forbidden stories

Forbidden stories are what a culture doesn’t lets its people tell each other or which it is so conditioned by that it doesn’t know how to dialogue with another culture in a way that will multiply goodwill on both sides.

They put humanity at risk of aborting learning and destroying innovative interactions. They reveal that spinning power of media which is to multiply goodwill or badwill but no state in between.

Where did forbidden story analysis come from? – well today when I meet any ten people I have to face the scary fact that most being younger will never have worked in worldwide organisations when the fastest means of management communications was the tickertape telex. I am so old that I have.

Survey of 1000 Broken Hearts – mine 1000 times over

And I remember the defining moment of being sent to asia for the first time – indonesia and Unilever actually. So, having researched local social needs from 1000 poor women, next having to try to explain this to ad agencies and new product chief execs sitting in new york and london . Since there was only telex they had to rely on me bringing bank the unforgettable  “forbidden” story” as well as the numbers . And for the next 7 years, with some help from early MIT dtabase technology I did this on over 100 projects before the networked personal computer became pervasive and the first thing that global organisations deleted was the external marker research who knew the forbidden stories their top people didnt know

Relevance today- america ’s #1 forbidden story is sustainability isnt MBA invented here

American people are stuck in a triple whammy culture:

  • 3: habitually and systemically used to using 10 times more non-renewable resources than anywhere else on the planet
  • 2: whose media is saturated with inconvenient truths called advertising spots
  • 1:  whose bankers and other powerful male MBA decision-makers define success by the most transient click of a spreadsheet number

There is in our diverse world an opposite nation that is a third of a century young:

  • Used to having to make do withy the least resources
  • Which grew up without tv media and whose most productive entrepreneurs are females used to communications in villagers meeting circles (and wonderully since 1996 connecting hundreds of thousands of such innovation centres digitally to resolve life-critical chalenges)
  • Whose most brilliantly entrepreneurual businessmen empower - they design and map out systems purposefully by valuing compound and communal exponentials over time not the fleetingly accounted number

Assuming you and I are not likely to be able to get groups of 10000 americans spending their holidays or work conferences exploring Bangladesh , what other solutions can our social business networks search out so that sustainability capitalism is a free choice in everyday working practice for every american man and not just every bangladeshi woman?

Shh  -Word of mouth good news,  lest you think this is hopeless, I dont while obama is in the white house.  American democracy’s forbidden subplot is he’s son of microcredit. Summer 2009 USA's most urgent catch 22 is:  will we return in the fall with enough groups of 10000 american youth able to empower Obama while he's still there to make right decisions if famous america democracy asks his team to just do it.

Friends are starting at least twice a year dialogues to discuss this and next urgent youth chalenges around the world – this year dhaka june 29 http://yunusforum.net/ , and Berlin November

MISSION

I will continue my scrapbook of thoughts on this issue at http://worldclassbrands.tv -the title of my 1989 book debriefing my experiences of trying to get the forbidden story heard in such extraordinary places as american ads agencies whose favourite book at the time was trout and ries positioning – the battle for your mind. In fact with clients who got to trust me , we would rehearse the news before the ad agency came in. I would then present a revolutionary new concept. The ad agnency would pout this impossible- what are you telling our client, who the hell are you , we are the brand-men. I would say why’s this truly meaningful and useful product impossible . They would say trout and ries says so. At which stage the head client would put a paperback copy of positionong in an ashtray and make a bonfire out of it. In moderating the media industry that along with Baldroge benchmarking was as near to entrepreneurial revolution as 1980s free markets and world class brands could get. Today yes we can benchmark Future Capitalism

eddy just phoned me - he is in baltimore with I think a licence from john hopkins to do malaria testing by urine sample- the claim is this is simpler than anything else a village nurse usually gets; and without such tests there are huge mistaken diagnoses as I think the recent rwanda compared with zambia presentation you went to confirmed; at best what happens is patients pay for unecessary cocktails of medicines

eddy was a poster presenter at the extraordinarily efficient healthcare section of the world congress and I recall dr yunus having a deep 5 minute talk with him

eddy would love it peter if you share any diaries of malaria meetings you hear of, or any other useful flows

now is the time to discover what we can integrate around community up ending malaria for 2 particular reasons

with yunus having entered into basf partnership thanks to saskia's team in germany -albeit with nets- there must be a team coordinator in dhaka looking at all end malaria integrating methods in the village;  mostofa please see if you can find who dhaka epicentre of that is

with end malaria the number 1 foreign health pledge of obama, it would be the greatest marketing waste in the world not to see what can be connected through jamii bora; I believe eddy is already present (now or soon) with us army trials of method in kenya -perhaps he needs to join you on one of your next meetings with the DC admiral

thanks for any connections we can weave

http://www.malaria2015.com/  http://yunusyouth.com/

incidentally I assume yunus networks follow up sachs and ryan interests in end malaria in south malawi

gordon

I dont know how this fits into your league tables of the schools that are best for the world -and how they encourage every internetworking student as a youth journalist - but it seems clear to me that there is a missing curriculum which ought to be a core agends on yunus dilaogue day june 29 http://yunusforum.net

for want of a better word it is the curriculum of microentrepreneur and its needs to be age graded/segmented to every child's likely last 3 years in school before needing to be income generating

I am told the core belief of network of microentrepreneurs is that most of us will have to (co)-create our own jobs; we cant expect huge employers of old nor are such systems good for yes we can networking that includes every person, community into the way of integrating sustainable global

thus -working backwards from the future of humanity as well as business and which societies are producitive places to be at or  connect/trade with:  the core components of this curriculum seem to include

-find out what in communities and networks we are in corresponds to most underserved needs that need young people working on them

-be put in touch with the most trusted microcredit operations applicable to peers like me, not other sorts of banks first

-be able, with open-minded mentors not examining teachers, to search through directories of social business or other open source replication franchises to see if there is one the communities around me as young person need which fits what I want to action learn how to do

-of course this also assumes that schooling has included content on how (microcredit) banking (and empowering government) works from the individual and community sustainability up not the biggest Walled Street down;

also relevant is how do these ideas systematically map back from any immediate future sustainability crises -and future capiltalism innovation priorities - like lack of green energy or crashing healthcare systems etc

-are any of your schools working on this curriculum gordon, if so is there any way dhaka can help proofcheck -or celebrate - content in some sort of continuously improving and open source way

-it seems to me we need to network around a leaflet on microentrepreneurs -whose indirect message is for the future you can't do a decent job as a teacher anywhere unless you understand microentrepreneurship is a freedom young people in your care demand access to -of course I am delighted to be told if you feel I misunderstand what the hidden agenda of microentrepreneurship spins round

youth helping yunus

On Thursday I am having a review meeting with Alexis in New York on this fifteen months on from starting a 1000 bookclub around future capitalism which began with dr yunus booktalk in new york january08 and an earlier meeting mostofa and I had in dhaka when proofs of the book were first available.

Our first pledge to dr yunus in january08 was to go film grameen colleagues' good news stories in ways we could put all over you tube and via 10000 free dvds http://yunus10000.com with an attempt to survey who wanted to be at centre of which activating which good news story

Attached is a quick attempt I made at a one-page checklist of ways to help Dr Yunus alumni save the world

I don't know if its a good format or not - however would love any feedback, or if you have other one page formats on what we all need to encourage friend networks to do whether gravitated around dr yunus or someone else you see as asking the world to sustain community up, please link us

Dear Mostofa

http://yunusforum.net/?page_id=39

I think you are making a good start. It can be a joy to see it reviewed by yunus and lamiya, and in youth dialogues on road to  june 23

so I would suggest you edit something like -

Youth Ambassador Stars-Rating Methodology (first draft)

This is my personal feedback as just one person:

it would be more consistent with bangla5000 export ambassadors if the first star mentioned intern at grameen or an officially recognised bangladeshi microcredit

on other stars I was wondering about some more exacting standards but actually both your ones and the more exacting ones are a choice to be made so that it first the bangla 5000 briefing (which I wasnt at!)

I think a second star is caring deeply about womens or childrens issues as relevant to ending poverty traps ariound them
I think a 3rd star is having spent a year coordinating a social action team service or investigating a social business design - the team may have involved as few as 3 people but they are to have put an average of an hour a week into working through and kept on the same focus; less important than a successful outcome is being openly able to explain to other people relevant learnings which can accelerate other people's chance of success in innovation breakthroughs for humanity- microcredit was itself a 4-person social action by birth
A fourth involves understanding that micro up is other systems round than top down; and even if they do make money (or obtain qualifications) in top-down world never misleading people as to which system they are organising in particular cases
fifth ??/
WE CANT ALL BE BANKERS THOUGH WE ALL NEED KNOWLEDGE OF BANKINGS COMMUNITY/SUSTAINABILITY/COMPOUND PURPOSES
My advice as researcher of world class brands is it is critical to the national strategy that Dr Yunus has spoken about (eg the speech Growing up with 2 giants - given at 2006 Bangladesh -China friendship conference) that we communicate to youth's social networks around the world through at least 7 collaboration identifiers - be gravitated toward one that matters first to you and then find the other 6 socially network arond and help you to- while there is a choice in making these I assume the brand/identifiers with the widest colaboration compasses are
bangladesh
microcredit
7 microsummits
future capitalism and social business entrepreneurs
the most specific brands are:
grameen
yunus (although our surveys of world's most trusted collaboration entrepreneur are not as individually focused as people programmed by western mass media who trivially look up to celebrities think- the bottom billion need one person prepared to be a collaboration world star to gain permission to advise the white house on how to change banking law or go be cat among the pidgeons of those who so far have only used internet or mobiles for the rich including billanthropists who have never lived in a village and appreciated life-critical need for community)
These are some of the extracts from Dr Yunus speech whioch also seemed to be echoed by both Kazi Islam in wanting to export and partner in being a world leader in what mobile leapfrogging can do eg http://bankabillion.org and Dipal's wish http://www.gshakti.org to see solar energy's thriving carbon negative economics web worldwide
The future of Bangladesh lies in being an open-door, open-arm country. In order to move up the economc ladder quickly we should open all our doors, invite everybody in, encourage our people to spread temselves all over the world, show their talents and win the confidence and appreciation of the whole world.
The list of our accomplishments is long and very impressive. We notice the admiring eyes of international delegates when we attend worldwide conferences be they in
microcredit (every counry in the world feels the need for microcredit, no country can ignore it)
disaster management,
health (we gave the world oral saline to combat diarrhea)
education, renewable energy, environment, women empowerment, or child labour.
Bangladesh is fortunate to have 2 giants (China, India) as our neighbours. Growing neighbours are sources of technology and experience. Expanding economies keep moving towards more high profit products and services, leaving behnd labour intensive items. This creates opportunities for neighbours. This is not to suggest that Bangladesh can  satisfy herself only with the markets and products which giant neighbours are not interested in serving.  What Bangladesh can do will depend on our level of efficeincy and management skill. We can find niches to provide high value specialised services to our giamt neighbours
With nearly 40 million mobiles connecting people, Bangladesh has one of the two lowest cost and highest per capita communications-knowledge infrastructures to partner and innovate with. Bangladesh is a very young population - half of us are under the age of 20.If we pay serious attention to them we can create a dramatically different generation. One way to let all children, poor or rich, boy or girl, urban or rural feel equal is ti ensure access to computer and internet. There is no reason why we cannot sign up with MIT Media Lab to do exactly this.
The world that young people will create will be the world of nnovative ideas. Old resistance to new ideas will crumble away. Searchers will sek from mmountains of ideas to get the ones they are looking for.  Unlike in old tmes, ideas and innovations will no longer remain unknown. Creativity in every direction will be rewarded more than anything else. Our education system has t be oriented towards promoting creativity in our young people. Grameen Bank employs over 25000 staff - and 90% are young people.I see te dedication and commitemnt with which they work. They can be the role model any where in the world. Granmeen Bank gives student loans to Grameen borrowers children to pursue higher education in medical, engineering and other practice areas. Two thirds of these scholarships go to girls.
(I tell all our youth that we value the definition of the entrepreneur as one who makes more jobs than she or he takes. -sentence added from ashden talk). MYunUS

The stories we tell;  the knowhow we empower youth to web and replicate ; the urgency of the next decade not deviating from ending poverty due the financial meltdown the way the last decade’s human progress was lost to wars.

Story 1 The former first lady of s.africa called Dhaka the open source University of Microcredit. Today we need dhaka to be mapped all over the world as the open source university of the future captalism which people need designed round social businesses and networks connecting up microentrepreneurs (defined by Yunus as leaders who make more jobs than they take) .

Story 2 Yes we can collaboratively race to design a transparent globalisation which integrates sustainability of every community by ending poverty

microup1.jpg
16 months of Research of youth’s connecting with Future Capitalism book of Yunus shows that they celebrate yunus stories but in capitalism’s biggest cities have no structure and insufficient group rewards to enable peer groups to action, learn and selectively network replication franchises . Media Recommendation: the most urgent thing we can do is brainstorm a concept capable of coordinating this and then everyone in Dhaka who has outreach around the world needs to ensure that grameenmicrocredit and Dhaka-social business operations collaborate around this concept therefore enabling yes we can youth to transform the union of Yunus and Obama’s visions into do-now realities.

Dear XXX

We (peter, you and I) briefly shook hands at JP Morgan

I wanted to see if your company would be interested in the transatlantic goals dr yunus has set us which mostofa (Dhaka to London) started working on 2.5 years ago with continuous support of Yunus secretariat, and which I (DC to many capital cities) joined in about 1.5 years ago when I bought 1000 advance copies of Future Capitalism. My father deputy edited The Economist for 40 years, and Dr Yunus is guest editing the first in a series of booklets in the new genre innovating collaboration- dad's contribution attached. Other resources we are already circulating are 10000 free dvds so youth can debate the best news ever youtubed which is of course micro -up!

I have met Dr Yunus briefly 7 times. The idea of our 1-day special dialogue in Dhaka with Dr Yunus in late June 2009 is to bring every world change project that 19-25 year olds could help with and which might plant one of 7 microsummits going beyond today's one for credit, banking. A typical commitment is the first web to link open cataloguing of 1000 social businesses by June http://socialbusiness.tv

And Rougly speaking the other six microsummits are

health

energy including water and clean foods

education

media including mobile leapfrogging

change professions with more SMBA than MBA

change governance from superpower to yes we can superempowerment

the summit compasses are fuzzy and of course all 6 bridge with deep microcredit owned by the community as a social business replicating franchise; however each is to be launched with an impossibly audacious goal- debating the equivalent of bank for 100 million poorest households within 7 years is exciting to socially network around

we expect to have about 20 micro university clubs set up by the end of march given the new yes we can spirit and the offer that the best ideas will be presented in dhaka for Dr Yunus and other Bangladeshi microcredit leaders to evaluate; ideally we want to help get a youth coordinator in every state racing to see which state can build the first poverty museum - dr yunus believing any state that can verify that will also be briliant at collaborating millennium goals worldwide

My expertise is really in low cost global branding - systemising purposes ,most worthy of human innovation, the sustainability flows and the eradication of conflicts that are needed if the networking movements dr yunus has described to us are to live up to our uniting collaboration value  impossible becomes possible if right action time place people

Our US representation of youth is mainly East Coast at this time. I love what I can understand of XXX and am interested in the sam daley harris -and 93 congressmen - search to connect the 10 deepest MCI including rising african stars like Jamii Bora as well as the golden trio of Bangladeshi originals. If you might like to partner what our youth networks aim to do by June perhaps we could meet you on one of your next east coast itineraries

Our Future Capitalism Ning aims to keep a decade long diary of most human stories dr yunus told in different regions- if you have one that's not logged please mail info@worldcitizen.tv so we can update

FC Ning also tries to keep monthly logs since yes we can inauguration

eg Jan 09

This mail among our confederates in cheerleading every state's race to be the first to build a poverty museum is typical of Micro & Collaboration networking under way among 19-25s

Dear A- can you try fllr all 47 delegates to dr yunus GWU talk feb 4 and perhaps phone me when I am back from boston's rehearsal of 10000 person summer festival around 9am on wednesday (or remind me of your cell phone)

thanks for all you are doing - you know the micro world beliefs of how we colaborate to end poverty just as practically as I do so choose anyone under 25 you trust to be on the same collaboration team; as I say mostofa will double check if there's someone grameen  dhaka has forgotten who's under 25 and epicentral in any particular state- I invite rachel to do same with ASA; I am only really aware of thegreenchildren in los angeles and that through them vidar's reach with youth may be along the west coast so I thing we are pretty safe nominating east coast people , and at the very least we can say that if each will define one project or vision by end of june that makes sense to majority of us we will make sure dr yunus sees it- and hopefully more

I guess that peter  B and anyone else who wants to can touch base with brac's usa leader (Susan Davis) in new jersey and sam daley harris in princeton once we have a bit more of a map of who's micro up youth who; not doing this in the first few weeks of inauguration of yes we can is tantamount to micro being the world's least competent social network so even if we dont get thanked immediately I am confident that this is what yunus has briefed mostofa to get doing these last 2.5 years

the shared communications and collaboration identity of micro has always been

impossible becomes possible when right people place time action

.Examples of how 68 year old Yunus needs youth's help

A THREAT

Between 1997 and 2006 microcreditsummit became humanity's favourite network raising access to microcredit among the poorest women from 11 million to over 100 million which has been reported as potentially a 300 billion $ industry currently social business owned by the poorest women in the world. Now big banks (whose subprime global confusion has just lost a trillion dollars for taxpayers are determining to chain the next 400 million poorest women in macrocredit (whose profits go to big city cheeses not microcredit that invests back in the village). Problem of macrocredit disguised as microcredit: 68 year-old Yunus, and 100000 Bangladeshi's whose 30 years of social business innovation, have given the world an open source model. This is one where, like any logical game, you only need to change one system rule and every flow designed to empower the poorest starts compounding opposite futures -in this instance spinning back to money grabbing by the richest speculators or loan sharks. The best way I can imagine of protecting an open source model is if 10000 youth across cities of te world understand the true maps and refuse to customise big brother fakes.

y10000 OPPORTUNTY

Yunus' future capitalism book published December 2007 seemed like the most exciting network invitation I had ever read- so I bought 1000 copies to start playing network games with and went to Dhaka to check on a 2008 new year's resolution. I asked Dr Yunus how large did he wish people to make Future Capitalism networking compared with microcredit. He said why not 10 times larger and started informing me of all the microworldsummit invitations you can see on the right hand side of the picture, and whom in his organisation to contact to get practical chapter and verses on each.

Your Q&A always welcome about this the most inspiring collaboration networking game I ever expect to hear about. Chris Macrae Washington DC Bureau of worldcitizen.tv tel 301 881 1655
